HARP 2.0 (Home Affordable Refinance Program)

The Government has eased requirements for qualification with Federally-backed HARP Refinancing

In an effort to entice current Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac borrowers to refinance, both agencies have adopted the HARP (Home Affordable Refinance Program) program, which was established by the Federal Government. Conforming (Conventional) Loans closed and sold to Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac prior to May 31, 2009, are eligible in most cases, as long as the borrower has been making their payments on time. This new refinancing program is not appraisal based.

With softer underwriting guidelines, no LTV (Loan to Value) or CLTV (Combined Loan to Value) requirements, and in many cases no appraisal, making it easier for most borrowers to take advantage of these historically low interest rates. These sites are available to see if you qualify. Go to www.freddiemac.com/mymortgage or http://www.fanniemae.com/loanlookup and check in the Home Affordable Refinance Program for a “property lookup”.
